New search engine ‘revolutionary’
As a matter of fact, after reading this article titled “New search engine ‘revolutionary’” in the http://www.physorg.com/news6255.html , and not seeing a mention of this anywhere on the search forums I decided to start my own blog.
The article talks about a 26-year-old PhD student from the University of New South Wales has patented a new way of exploring the web that could revolutionize existing search engines.
Developed by Ori Allon, the Orion ™ search engine is designed to complement searches conducted on services such as Google, Yahoo or MSN Search.
1st of all he is an Israeli (me too, so there is some local patriotism there), looking at the web I could not find any link to try it out but did see a few screenshots in an article about it in Hebrew (http://www.ynet.co.il/articles/0,7340,L-3139498,00.html) you do not need to understand the language to view the screenshot.
In my mind this is really logical way of presenting results for a query, sort of like having a wikipedia for each and every query you place, and this will REALLY change the way SEO (organic) is made.
On the flip side, it will be a great tool for SEOs to gather data during their research on building “original” content on their web site.
I once heard Greg Boser WebGuerrilla mention on webmastersradio.fm http://www.webmasterradio.fm podcast that he does such things using an offline search application that gather text from the SERP pointed pages according to a defined % of text that he request, this Orion solution sounds to me like a much better way to do it.
One of the readers already pointed out some other solution that does something like this named Surf Note http://www.surfnotes.com/ , I wasn’t able to play with it also.
In my mind once this Orion Like solution is out there and will be integrated with the big SE, it will become very popular since people want the get the answer with minimal research and prefer that the research will be done for them.
as I see it the future is not to search for documents but the ability to get summarized information that is an answer to your search query, getting into the sites which actually have the information on them will no longer be necessary.
